Watch 2:52-2:55. And there is your answer about an OC1. And he has airbags. Now thats boating. Its different lines, and different reading of water. But damn fun. I miss it being in Texas. KEEP THE SCRATCHED UP SIDE, DOWN. Becaise the river gods demand sacrifice.....

Now int he white water canoe community we have a joke. How do you know when a white water canoeist gets old? Answer he becomes a Kyaker. And folk that roll on air mattresses(rafts) are called hood ornaments.I am a very small sect of the white water community. What I really love about the OC1 is the gear I can carry. I have been on a 4 week river trip. No resupply. You can carry a lot of gear in a canoe. And if you are smart about it. Go for a long time without seeing a person.Peace brother.

True to that. Man the canoe is awesome. Old town used to make a really good craft right there near you. We called her the nasty little bitch. They called it the otter.Lots of rocker. So you could really manage it through a rock garden. Dagger makes a good oc1 as well. Both are a bitch on anything flat. Or if you catch a head wind. When I was 15 I was taught how to roll a canoe with airbags. For those not in the know about OC1's and even some OC2's it trips them out. (cont)

I do owe you an appology for sounding rude. Everyone who has been on any river recreationally has had their close calls, whether it be themselves or seeing other people hurt or even worse. I have respect for people who do whitewater in opened face canoes. Thats one thing I would love to do. I have seen them on the Upper G. I to started young, guiding commercially when I was 16. If a guide tells you he doesnt know what a J stroke is hes blowing smoke up your ass. Hes lying if his lips are moving.

I am not crazy friend. And I am not a know it all. The 2 times in life I have come closest to dieing were with a paddle just lost out of my hand. 1st a strainer, and 2nd hypothermia(thank god for road flares)I started when I was 12 in Az on the Verde river. My brother who taught me.Jim Slingluff wrote the Verde river recreation guide. And was on Team Grand Canyon years ago. So thanks for being realistic. I was. I just felt strange in a different craft. And following non-canoe lines. Peace.

You are probably crazy, but thats cool. I would not have been a guide on this and the New River for the past nine years if I didnt like the thrill. We get people like you all the time who think they know it all. We answer your stupid questions with stupid answers.Your guide knows what J stroking is. Next time just enjoy the moment and dont try to compare everything.

Once again another person who does'nt know anything about white water canoeing. I've done the grand canyon. And I paddled water that was bigger and far more technical. Much of the canyon is non-stop class 3 and 4 rapids. And yes I can read water and find lines.

your guide was probably right... and if you think the gauley was boring try swimming it... cus that's probably what you would end up doing if you canoed it. Do you know the lines on upper gauley? I doubt it and being in anything other than a raft on the gauley without knowing the lines is just stupid

I did the Upper Gauley in October 2000. This was the best rafting trip ever for me!
